English Language Teaching Assistant in New Caledonia

The 2018 campaign for the English Language Teaching positions is now open. The deadline for applications is Monday September 25, 2017.

Introduction

This program is aimed at students who intend to become French or English language teachers, with little to no teaching experience. It is not aimed at experienced teachers.

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates must be Australian citizens or permanent residents***.
  • Candidates must be enrolled at an Australian university at the time of application, and must have completed at least two years of university studies.
  • Candidates must be between 20 and 35 years of age at the time of taking up their positions (from 13 March 2018).
  • Candidates must have a minimum Level B1 in French (see the Cadre européen commun de références pour les langues).
  • Candidates should preferably be single, as the salary of an assistant is not adequate to support dependents.
  • Candidates must submit a National Police Check no older than three months.

Role of the Assistant

Tasks to be carried out by the assistant include:

  • Providing help in the classroom with oral and written English for small groups of students for 12 hours every week.
  • Providing linguistic and cultural assistance to teachers.
  • Making recordings on tape for the audio-visual resources of the school’s library.
Contract:

  • Length: 7 months, from March 13 2018 to October 13 2018.
  • A 12-hour per week schedule.
  • Net monthly allowance: 1530 € (182 000 F CFP).
Application

Applications should include:

  1. A completed application form, accessible online by creating an account.
  2. 1 uploaded passport sized photograph.
  3. 1 uploaded copy of your university transcripts and degrees obtained (if applicable).
  4. 1 uploaded copy of the medical form, available for download in the online application system.
  5. 1 copy of your passport ID page. Your passport must be valid until December 2018.
  6. 1 uploaded copy of the two separate fiches d’appreciation, available for download in the online application system. The forms must be completed and signed by two different teachers and stamped by the university. NB: It is a requirement that you upload both fiches d’appreciation, despite one of them being an optional upload. This is to allow for those students who study at a university with only one French teacher present to complete the application. If you are unable to provide both fiches d’appreciation you must contact Eleanor Harley on education.canberra-amba@diplomatie.gouv.fr before submitting your application. 
  7. 1 uploaded copy of your National Police Check, which can be no more than three months old at the time of application.
Applications must be completed and submitted by Monday September 25, 2017.
